About us

About us

The project was not without its challenges - a tight urban site with structural issues surrounding adjacent buildings; an innovative cross laminated timber structure and a multi headed client team amongst them - but the HM Raitt team, were a pleasure to deal with - good humoured, helpful, diligent and capable. They have been a key element of the project’s success.’

At Raitt's all our employees have to attend regular CPD courses, both compulsory and elective, and being a founding member of the CITB accredited Dunedin Training Group, keeps us abreast of any impending legislative changes, allowing us to be proactive in our staff training, rather than reactive.

All our Site Agents are a minimum SSSTS qualified (those without the higher qualification, will be working towards their SMSTS qualification), and all our Management Team are degree qualified and/or registered/accredited with a professional body in a relevant field.

We employ and train time-served and accredited employees only. When we find a shortage in the market for skilled labour, we “grow our own” by taking on promising apprentices and school leavers, or adult apprentices and putting them through a 4 year CITB college attendance apprentice scheme. Around 75% of these trainees are offered a full time position at the end of their apprenticeship.

At present over 80 % of our on-site operatives served their apprenticeship with HMR, with a large proportion of our staff having many years of service within the company.

We also have long standing relationships with several sub-contractors whose trades we do not carry in house, enabling us to provide a complete service and react promptly to any client instructions.

Our history

Founded in 1908, we have been family owned and run for our entire history. The Company has run continuously in Musselburgh for over 110 years, serving Edinburgh, The Lothians, Fife, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen at various times.
Over the years we have undertaken domestic, commercial, residential, institutional and historic and preservation projects from £100 - £2 million in value.

Who we work with

Through the years we have worked with a wide range of customers, from individual home owners through to professional architects and large developers.
